In “Corpus-Collapsum,” a floating, two-part top is gracefully supported by a strong and light structural frame. The apparent lightness of the top is enhanced by the natural tonal variations of the wood, madrone, and the central gap that divides the two halves. Contrasting wood species create visual tension, while complementary shapes maintain the overall unity of the design. The curves throughout the piece, from the arcs of the base to the shallow relief carved into the top, create a common theme at a diversity of scales. Dovetails join the sweeping arcs of the base and create a strong and stable corner joint that unobtrusively supports the tray's thin and fluid form.
