“Evanesce-Scent” is a small, finely made box for jewelry or other personal keepsakes. The exterior is constructed from bubinga, a hard, dense and lustrous African hardwood. The simple, undivided interior is made from Port Orford Cedar. Esteemed in Japan by master carpenters and used for temple construction, this cedar is also highly regarded for its sweet and spicy aroma. While the box is closed this aroma gradually builds, until, when the lid is opened, an ephemeral burst of sweet scent is released. As a small personal piece that will be handled up-close, it is exquisitely detailed with crisp lines and well-fitted joints. To ensure a perfect fit and seamless grain matching, the box was originally constructed whole and later cut to separate the lid.
